Erectile Dysfunction

COVID-19’s Impact on Erectile Dysfunction

As the COVID-19 pandemic progresses, so does research on the effects the virus has on our bodies as a whole. The COVID-19 virus is known to damage blood vessels, and evidence suggests this includes the vessels that supply blood to the penis.

While we’re still learning about the long-term damage the virus can cause, research shows that these three factors can lead to the potential onset of erectile dysfunction (ED) in men who have had the virus:

  • Cardiovascular Problems – We know that the vascular system and reproductive system are connected. We also know that COVID-19 can affect heart health because it can cause inflammation in the heart and surrounding blood vessels and veins. As a result of this new or worsened vascular condition caused by the virus, the blood supply to the penis can become blocked or narrowed. The virus has also been linked to endothelial dysfunction. This is where, instead of expanding and contracting to allow blood flow, the inner wall of blood vessels remains stiff. This can affect how blood is pumped and carried through your body, including tissue in the penis. Having the blood supply to your penis disrupted can make it difficult to get or keep an erection.
  • Psychological Impacts – Research finds that COVID-19-related stress, anxiety, and depression can be linked to poor mood, and since sexual activity is closely associated with mental health, this lowered mental health can possibly lead to ED.
  • Overall Health Deterioration – Experts say ED is usually a symptom of an underlying medical condition. Since the COVID-19 virus can cause a plethora of health issues, having overall poor health could mean you’re more likely to have severe or unwanted symptoms from COVID-19, such as ED and other complications.

Evidence Behind COVID-19 Potentially Causing ED

Various studies have been done on men who have survived the COVID-19 virus to get a better understanding of the long-term effects. One study found that people infected with the virus were more than five times more likely to develop ED. When doing studies on two former COVID-19 patients who became impotent several months after their infection, researchers found coronavirus particles in the penile tissue samples taken from them. Further study revealed evidence of blood vessel damage in the penises of the COVID-19 patients, compared to two other men with ED who had never been infected. Experts believe the blood vessels malfunction and are thus unable to provide enough blood to enter the penis for an erection.

When compared to organ damage in the lungs, kidneys, and brain that’s been found in COVID-19 patients, doctors expect that the penis could also be affected permanently. However, it’s still too early to know for sure what the long-term effects of the virus are on sexual and reproductive health, and more research is still being done.

Conditions That Can Contribute to a Lack of Confidence

Lack of confidence can be caused by a variety of things, from weight gain and the loss of a relationship to depression and anxiety. That being said, three of the most common, albeit lesser-known, causes of lack of confidence are erectile dysfunction, low testosterone, and premature ejaculation. Below, we will explore both conditions and explain how these conditions can cause or contribute to a lack of confidence in men of all ages.

Erectile Dysfunction

According to a study, an estimated 52 percent of all men will suffer ED at some point in their life. ED, which is defined as the inability to get or maintain a lasting erection, can often be connected to lack of confidence, whether as a symptom, or cause, of ED. Many men with ED that suffer from lack of confidence are plagued by feelings of inadequacy due to not being able to get or maintain an erection, or sexually satisfy their partner. This lack of confidence, can, in turn, make it more difficult to get or maintain an erection.

Low Testosterone

Low testosterone levels can cause fatigue and a general lack of energy. Men with low testosterone might often feel “moody” or sad, which can cause them to avoid intimacy, have sexual performance issues, or suffer from a lack of confidence.

Premature Ejaculation

Premature ejaculation can cause stress, frustration and shame. Men that struggle with premature ejaculation may, as a result, suffer from depression, anxiety, or a lack of confidence due to not being able to stop prematurely ejaculating, or maintain the intimacy level they desire in their relationship.

ED, Low T, & Premature Ejaculation Treatment Options That Can Boost Your Confidence Levels

Fortunately, most cases of erectile dysfunction, low testosterone, and premature ejaculation can be treated. In cases of ED caused by lack of confidence, some treatment options include (but aren’t limited to):

  • Behavioral modification
  • PRP therapy
  • Acoustic wave therapy

Low Testosterone treatment can include a mix of:

  • Topical solutions
  • Medication
  • Dietary changes
  • Testosterone supplements

Premature ejaculation can often be treated with techniques such as:

  • The “stop-start” method
  • Topical solutions
  • Medication

These treatment options can not only restore sexual excitement and a man’s ability to get and maintain a satisfying erection, but boost their mood and as well.

Five Ways to Win Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, and for many it’s a wonderful time of romance and love. Unfortunately for others, it can be a poignant reminder of certain performance-related difficulties. Flowers and chocolates are great gifts that every woman loves, but wouldn’t it be nice to take things one step further, just like you used to? Well, believe it or not, you can. Here are five proven solutions to help make 2018 the best Valentine’s Day you’ve had in ages.

  1. We’re all familiar with the little blue pill. And for a lot of guys, it works great – for a while. What’s not often mentioned however, is the fact that ED pills often lose their efficacy over time, or sometimes aren’t effective at all! For cases such as these, we have a range of customized erectile dysfunction treatment plans with proven results.

2. Maybe drugs aren’t right for you because of certain medical conditions, or you simply prefer treatments that take a more natural route. Wouldn’t it be great if you could treat ED with long-lasting results, using your body’s own natural capabilities? WAVE Therapy is the answer you’ve been searching for.

3. Maybe you’re looking for a bit ‘more’? After all, they do say ‘go big or go home’. Despite years of late-night infomercials perhaps convincing you otherwise, there is a way to boost your size – naturally! It’s called the Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy®, and has no negative side effects.

4. Instead of performance issues in the moment, perhaps you feel a general malaise, or that you have less energy and drive than you used to. This could be a sign of low testosterone – something that happens to men naturally as they age, and is totally treatable!

5. Finally, if you are happy with your sexual performance and overall mood, then a box of chocolates and bouquet of roses are never a bad idea on Valentine’s Day! Changes in sexual health are often driven by broader underlying health issues such as heart disease or diabetes. More information is available here.

Foods That Boost Your Sex Drive

Turning to aphrodisiacs, which stimulate sexual desire, is an age-old way to naturally help boost your sex drive and combat erectile dysfunction. While consistent problems related to sexual performance often require treatment to see significant improvement, it can never hurt to supplement your diet with these fruits and vegetables that can have been linked to positive side effects like increased libido, testosterone production and blood flow.

Go Green

There are certain aphrodisiacs most people are familiar with. You’ve probably overheard people mention how chocolate, red wine and oysters can get you “in the mood.” But there are some tasty items that are less well known for their link to sexual arousal. Adding asparagus and avocado to your diet is one way to potentially improve your sexual appetite.

Asparagus provides Vitamin E, which can increase blood and oxygen flow to the genitals. Blood flow is a key part of getting and maintaining an erection. This veggie also has a high level of potassium, which some studies link to sex hormone production. The avocado comes with high levels of vitamin B6 which helps with the mechanism that produces testosterone.

Think Pink

Another overlooked category of aphrodisiacs are fruits. Some studies show that pomegranates, watermelons and figs are associated with increased sexual desire. Pomegranates have antioxidants, which promote blood flow to the genitals. Also, some studies link pomegranate juice to improvement of erectile dysfunction. Watermelons contain citruline, which can help increase nitric acid, impacting blood flow, blood vessel relaxation and sexual arousal. Figs are high in amino acids, linked to improved sexual stamina and increased libido.

So next time you are preparing your grocery list, keep your sexual health in mind and add a few of these items to your cart. Learning more about boosting your sexual performance at

How to Maintain Healthy Testosterone Levels

Happy Man At The Beach |

When it comes to testosterone, some men do not realize the importance of monitoring healthy levels. Testosterone plays a key role in general health, balancing stress hormones, and body composition. However, at around 40, some men will begin to see a sharp decline in testosterone levels that can sometimes negatively affect their overall health. Memphis Men’s Clinic is here to give you some lifestyle changes, you can start today, to help maintain healthy testosterone levels:

Pay attention to what you eat/drink

This does not mean you have to keep track of all your meals in a journal, but it is a good idea to pay attention to what you are putting in your body in the first place. There are many studies from prominent health journals that have found a variety of foods and drinks that can cause low testosterone symptoms in men and should, therefore, be avoided:

  • Alcohol
  • Sodas or sugary drinks
  • Soy-based products
  • Processed foods

Some studies have shown that poor mental health or high stress can sometimes cause low testosterone symptoms in men of all ages. Conversely, low testosterone can be the cause of irritability or depression among some men. Try taking ten minutes out of your day for meditation to reflect on your daily stress and the issues that are affecting your mental health.

Regularly visit a men’s health clinic

It is never too early to focus on your sexual health. If you are experiencing troubles with sex drive, erectile dysfunction, muscle weakness, or other common low testosterone symptoms in men, it might be time to visit a doctor. Sound scary? It does not have to be. Memphis Men’s Clinic offers confidential consultation with one of our male physicians in a discrete environment.

Schedule your first all-inclusive appointment at the Memphis Men’s Clinic by calling 901.602.3770.  Your appointment includes a blood test, to determine your testosterone levels and help determine if testosterone replacement therapy is for you.

3 Reasons to get Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy

Male enhancement has always been geared toward men who are dealing with erectile dysfunction.  But at Memphis Men’s Clinic we believe that enhancement shouldn’t just be for men who struggle with performance issues or loss of libido. We think that men everywhere should be able to give themselves a little boost, even if they aren’t dealing with symptoms of ED.

Enter platelet-rich plasma therapy.

Platelet-rich plasma therapy, or Priapus®, is an all-natural treatment that has a number of benefits for all men. Here are three reasons to consider platelet-rich plasma therapy.

No pills, sprays or cream

Platelet-rich plasma therapy uses your body’s own plasma to rejuvenate the penis. By separating the platelets, then injecting them into specific regions of the penis, blood-derived growth factors work with your body to stimulate strength and growth of the penis. Your body will never reject these platelets because they came from you and the treatment has a very high rate of success.

Results in as little as a single treatment

No need to have surgery or use a pump forever to see results. Many men have reported a difference in strength, hardness, length and girth after just one treatment. Treatments are delivered at our office and last a total of 20-30 minutes.

Increased sexual performance

Platelet-rich plasma therapy doesn’t just give you a bump in terms of size, it improves sexual performance too. Erections are not only stronger and fuller, but they last longer.  Platelet-rich plasma therapy also increases sensation and sensitivity making sex more pleasurable. And many patients with symptoms of premature ejaculation have reported an improvement in their performance as well.

If you are having issues with the strength, duration or firmness of your erections—or just want to add some length—don’t put off doing something about it any longer.  Contact the professionals at Memphis Men’s Clinic about platelet-rich plasma therapy today.

3 Better Options than the Little Blue Pill

The little blue pill recently turned 20 years old. Since it’s initial launch in March of 1998, Viagra has generated over $17 billion worth of revenue and become a social and cultural phenomenon.

But things have changed since 1998. People don’t use dial-up to access the internet, bucket hats aren’t cool, and pills are no longer the best option on the market if you suffer from ED.

If you’re considering treatment for erectile dysfunction, here’s three approaches that have kept up with the times and may be more effective than popping a pill.

WAVE therapy

WAVE therapy involves sending gentle, low-energy acoustic wave pulses in to the penis to increase blood flow. It’s an outpatient treatment that involves zero sedation, medication, or invasive surgery. The process is designed to “wake up” stem cells and other growth factors in the penis. It creates new blood vessels from existing ones and revitalizes tissue, increasing blood-flow and leading to strong and sustainable erections.

Since the waves used are a very low-frequency, the procedure is painless and carries no risks or side effects. We have patients who have seen improvement in erectile function with a single treatment!

Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy

Platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP), or Priapus, is an all-natural, platelet-rich plasma treatment that stimulates natural growth of the penis (both girth and length), and heightens sensation. While the treatment can alleviate some symptoms of erectile dysfunction, it’s not just for those afflicted by ED. PRP can help men who have been afflicted by prostate cancer, diabetes, Peyronie’s Disease (curving of the penis), or even men who just want to increase size and amplify sexual sensation.

PRP has a simple application process, no negative side effects, and is administered by the trained physicians at the Memphis Men’s Clinic.

Testosterone replacement therapy

As time goes on, many men will naturally experience a decrease in their testosterone levels. Low testosterone, or low-T, can cause a loss of libido, decreased energy, and erectile dysfunction. Customized treatment plans can be created for specific individuals depending on their testosterone levels and symptoms.

In most cases, testosterone replacement therapy has been able to counteract the effects of decreased testosterone and improve sexual performance in men while also improving muscle tone and energy levels. Many patients also report an improved overall outlook on life.

You don’t have to plan your sex life around the time schedule that pills dictates. Any of these treatments can create a more permanent solution — not just a band-aid — for ED. Talk to our doctor if you’re serious about a finding a long-lasting resolution.

Common Myths about Erectile Dysfunction

Man typing questions on lap topAs soon as symptoms of erectile dysfunction (ED) start to appear, many men will begin asking about and searching for information regarding causes and cures. Despite the many resources available, there are still many myths associated with ED that can sometimes discourage men from paying attention to their sexual health or finding treatment.

Here are the most common myths and facts about erectile dysfunction.

Myth: ED is not a normal and natural part of aging for males.

Fact: Many men will experience erectile dysfunction. There are over 50 million men in the US who experience ED symptoms such as decreased sex drive, difficulty maintaining an erection and getting an erection.  In fact 40% of men over 50 experience these symptoms.

Myth: Going to a clinic is unnecessary, because erectile dysfunction does not warrant speaking to a doctor.

Fact: Although ED itself is not dangerous, erectile dysfunction may be a sign of more serious medical problems like diabetes or high blood pressure. It is important to keep track of your sexual health and regularly check in with your doctor if you experience any symptoms of ED.

Myth: The only way to treat ED is with pills or surgery.

There are many treatment options for erectile dysfunction.  The Memphis Men’s Clinic specializes in ED treatment and on the comfort and privacy of its patients when providing treatment for men’s sexual health in Memphis, TN. We offer many ED treatment options including WAVE Therapy, a new non-invasive treatment for ED.

An Unusual Culprit of ED: Bicycling

man on a bikingTypically being involved in sports and other physical activities is associated with improving your sex life. Working out produces endorphins that assist with the release of sex hormones and improves blood flow, which can help combat ED. However, when it comes to aggressive bicycling, you should be aware of certain risks to your sexual health.

When your weight is not distributed properly on the bike seat, you may put pressure on the perineum, an area of your body that contains nerves and arteries connected to reproductive organs. The bike seat can create pressure that may inhibit blood flow to an area of your body that is critical for having and sustaining an erection. If you experience penile numbness after intense riding, you may have damaged your pudendal artery. This kind of injury may contribute to temporary or permanent erectile dysfunction (ED).

If you are seeking ED treatment in Memphis, visit the Men’s Clinic to learn about your options. Make your appointment today at

Fortunately, there are some steps you can take to prevent ED issues related to biking. Changing to a bike seat that is not as narrow and wearing padded biking shorts can help distribute pressure. Adjusting the height of the seat can prevent you from being in a position where the legs are totally extended and more pressure is put on the perineum. Finally, taking breaks and shifting positions throughout longer rides can help prevent injuries.
